Kal Leski (They/Them)

Kal Leski began dancing at their local studio in Colorado Springs at age 12 and immediately fell in love with dance. One tap class turned into years of training in contemporary, jazz, tap, hip hop, musical theatre, ballet, acro and modern, and at 19 they moved to NYC to dance at Marymount Manhattan College. With a passion for dance education, Kal started teaching while in college and graduated with their BA in Dance Teaching Techniques from MMC in 2016. 2017-19 they danced with BABEL (a social justice dance company) and various other projects as a freelancer. They performed works by Cherice Barton, Jamal Sims, Jessica Hendrix, Bill T. Jones, Sidra Bell, the 92nd Street Y Musical Theater Lab, Alberto del Saz, Suzanne McHugh, and BABEL. They also danced with Al Blackstone, Nijawwon Matthews, Josh Prince, Ahmad Simmons, Charissa Barton, Joshua Bergasse, Catherine Cabeen, Elena Comendador, Anthony Ferro, Nancy Lushington, David Norsworthy, Kristen Carcone, MADBOOTS’ Austin Diaz and Jonathan Campbell, Loni Landon and more.

Kal teaches with Dance Theatre of Harlem, Broadway Dance Center’s Children & Teens Program and subs Broadway Dance Center open classes. They also bring dance to NYC kids at Brooklyn Prospect Charter School teaching full time. Contemporary, improv and acro are their favorite styles to teach and creating a safe space to learn is their top priority as a teacher. In studios where there is trust there can be shared progress and joy!
